Places

Weston Manor House, now a hotel, has a much later facade in front of older areas, some of which are Tudor.  Much of the interior, including the entrance hall and panelled dining room have retained their original features.
The present St Mary's Church was built in 1741, although there is evidence at the base of the tower of an earlier Saxon building.  The Lord of the manor, having returned from the Grand tour with paintings and ideas, had the previously already dilapidated church rebuilt in the plain rectangular shape to best display his painting as an altar piece.
The Methodist Chapel, in North Lane, was built in 1838 and remained in use until its closure in 1993,  the place of worship for Protestant dissenters.  Many children grew up in the village attending both church and chapel, thereby gaining a place on two Sunday school outings.
There are two pubs in the village - the Chequers and the Ben Jonson, both recorded as early as 1728 and by implication here long before then.
Weston is one of the few villages in the area to still have on display their Village Stocks.  The age of the present stocks is unsure, but certainly records of law keeping in the village, via a constable, village pound, whipping post, handcuffs and staves are documented in the 18th Century.
Weston Airfield, itself one of the earliest in the country, being built in 1917, and is now a parachute dropping zone. But between the wars the site was used by Alexander Korda to film part of his futuristic film 'Things to Come' in 1935.
An area to the north of the village and lying on the parish boundary is a SSSI, having in the 18th century been the site of peat workings and now, along with the neighbouring Stone Pits is protected for the rare flora found there.
There are many traditional stone and thatch cottages in the village, along with a duck pond, children's playing field, village hall and the oak tree - which legend has it will survive as long as at least one child is born in the village each year.
