Welcome!
Welcome to Weston on the Green - a relatively small village (population of around 500) situated some 6 miles north of Oxford and 4 miles south of Bicester.
It has a church, a village shop with a post office, a village hall and a thriving community. And this community has been relatively peaceful - we have been known to get excitable such as when the village school closed (24 years ago) and when our patience runs out because of vehicles speeding dangerously through the village.
But a recent announcement of a proposal to build an eco-town on our door-step, with anything up to 20,000 houses has more than just annoyed the majority of the village - and the surrounding villages.
Initially this website had two functions:
- To explain the actions of Weston-Front - the local pressure group formed to fight the proposals,
- To describe the local history of Weston on the Green as a means of explaining why we want to keep the character of our village and not have it developed into another Milton Keynes! This site will be developed more fully over time to provide a comprehensive local history of the village.
PLEASE NOTE:
At the public meeting on Wednesday 23rd April, it was suggested that a more concise name be used for the official Weston-Front website. As from now (25th April) details on Weston-Front can be found at www.westonfront.com
The Weston-Front pages on this site will not be updated and will be deleted in due course.
This website will now concentrate solely on the local history of Weston on the Green, Oxfordshire.
